Red Menace, part deux
Found this at Drudge:
Rumsfeld rebuked China at a regional security conference here, saying it was pouring huge resources into its military and buying large amounts of sophisticated weapons despite facing no threat from any other country.
The Pentagon chief’s remarks signaled a harder line against China from the Bush administration, which has criticized Beijing over trade and human rights issues but not directly challenged its military buildup.
This does note bode well for the long-term. I think we’re seeing the beginning, if we’re not already there, of a new Cold War. WIth luck, it will be just that. As a Navy man, I can say that any conflict with China will involve our Navy much more that the War on Terror has.

Good on him. I agree that there is a CW with China on the horizon. The real great tragedy here is that the Chinese people, I believe, do not / would not want such a thing to happen. I believe the Chinese gov’t is fomenting this as a means of consolidating power in the face of an increasingly western, capitalistic populace.
Truly a sad possibility.
