GQ Talking Points

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

1) Abdul Rahman - I understand the “charges” have been dropped. Now, if the Afghan Govt. will cement the idea that you do not kill Christian converts, pperhaps all our blood spilt there WON’T have been in vain.
2) The lefties have created the “progressive” Quadrennial Defense Review. They propose to restore US Military […]

New Navy Uniforms Introduced

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Frank just emailed me this: The new Navy service (for E1-E6)and work uniforms (for E1-O10) have been approved.

WASHINGTON (NNS) — Outfitting the Sailor of the future took another step forward last week when Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen approved plans for a single working uniform for all ranks and a year-round service uniform […]

A retraction of a sort: I think we need to take a breather re: Islamic insanity

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

if any of you are ignorant of the blog called “The Officers’ Club“, that’s your significant loss.
Consider this your introduction:

Freedom from oppression remains the answer to this strategic gambit. If people can be given a choice other than a fascist dictatorship or an 8th century theocracy, they’ll probably take it. That is why OEF and […]

New MilBlog: Firepower Forward

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Brazo Zulu to The Officers’ Club.
Firepower Forward is a blog run by a US Army Major in Afghanistan whose tour is wrapping up.
Any blogger who can hammer Arianna Huffington like this is AOK in my book.
Dear Ms. Huffington,
Ms. Huffington, your January 9th column is not only grossly misleading, it is irresponsible. Clearly relying on […]

“Global Strike”, aka Contingency Plan 8022

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

The Officers’ Club (again) finds a goodie.
In short, the President and SecDef have, since 2002, had the Armed Forces continually refining plans for unwarned strikes against Iran and North Korea in order to defang these cruds.
You can read the WaPo column outlining it here.
Since at least the middle of 2004, U.S. long-range bombers and submarines […]

Bin Laden’s truce offer - prerequisite for a really horrific attack?

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

I heard a theory last week: that the truce offer was offered in the full knowledge that it will be refused.
The end result being this: under Sharia, OBL now has a moral carte blanche to kill whomever, wherever, however he desires. His offer, now refused, means that there are now no “innocents” here. […]

a shortie: there’s a war brewing. Perhaps a biggie.

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Ladies and Gentlemen of our Armed Forces:
I’ve been reading up on this Iranian nonsense, and there’s not a lick of sense in the Iranian Government these days it seems.
Ahmadinejad with nuclear weapons. Hitler in the Rhineland (hat tip to Vodkapundit’s comments).
Sadly, it smells kinda like that. I’m beginning to be genuinely fearful that […]

US Army Sniper gets kill at 1250 meters

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

In Ramadi, Staff Sergeant Jim Gilliland, who hunted squirrels as kid, then deer, then men (as stated in the article), registered a kill from 1250 meters with the M24 .308 sniper rifle.
The max range on his Leupold scope? 1000 meters. 25% beyond his “maximum” range.
The article is from the Brit paper […]

Navy Reservist, and blogger, Paul Berkley was murdered over the weekend, reports The Military Outpost. Berkley and his wife were shot while in Milbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. Berkley was home on leave from Fifth Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the Berkley family and we hope for a […]

Navy plans for expanding the fleet

Sunday, December 4th, 2005

The New York Times reports the navy is proposing to increase the fleet from 281 ships to 313 in the next decade or so. The emphasis seems to be on combatting irregular warfare and looks like it’s moving away from more traditional warfare, such as that with China.

New Cold War?

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

Chinese Americans involved in stealing Naval secrets, according to the Associated Press. My response: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over?

Chinese Espionage takes Aegis etc etc

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

Worse than Walker - at least the Izzies aren’t our future nemesis like China is.
This is ENRAGING!!
Key compromises uncovered so far include sensitive data on Aegis battle management systems that are the core of U.S. Navy destroyers and cruisers.
China covertly obtained the Aegis technology and earlier this year deployed its first Aegis warship, code-named Magic […]

Stability in the Middle East, and how the very term illustrates the lack of context in the media today

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Blogger Varifrank has this entry on “context”, and how it’s (obviously) absent from the grey matter of almost all people who are in the reporting business.
My fav part? Easy! The TIMELINE - annotated, that is. 1998 is a particularly fine vintage, sir:
1998
Feburary: The United States Senate passes resolution 71, which urged […]

More proof: More guns = less crime

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Of Arms and the Law found the recent UN report on crime.
A report on British crime figures. “A report released this week by the United Nations confirms what law-abiding Americans have known for quite some time. That being that criminals prefer victims who cannot fight back. Based on a crime survey of the […]

Navy, Marines, block Yahoo!, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Military.com reports that the Navy and Marines have blocked commercial email sites from all overseas government computers and some here at home, if the computers are on NMCI (Navy-Marine Corp Intranet). While I appreciate the attention to Information Awareness and security, I think there should be some accomodation for servicemen and women and their families […]

Deep budget cuts coming to the Navy?

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Noah Shachtman at Defense Tech writes about possible big-time budget cuts coming the way of the Navy. The Pentagon is looking at some $13 - $15 billion in cuts for the 2007 budget. The Navy will feel part of that as it looks at losing $18 billion over the next six years. Yikes.

We support the troops, so long as we can party on their graves.

Saturday, October 22nd, 2005

Little Green Footballs had this entry really dropped the ball here… and I got suckered in.
The American Friends Service Committee is planning to hold a series of parties all across the country when the 2000th US soldier is killed in Iraq
They called them parties, they are not. LGF did not bother to check the […]

Surprise, surpise! Berkeley cancels Veteran’s Day!

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

From Michelle Malkin:
Berkeley’s Veterans Day ceremony, scheduled for Nov. 11, was abruptly canceled on Monday because the volunteer organizing committee split over the political content.
At issue was a proposal by the chairman, singer/songwriter Country Joe McDonald, to have Bill Mitchell, a co-founder of Cindy Sheehan’s organization, Gold Star Families for Peace, as the keynote speaker.
Mitchell’s […]
